HWY 3A TO UNDERGO SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS

KEREMEOS – A 17.3 km section of Highway 3 from Junction Hwy 3/3A to Yellow Lake will get a boost with surface improvements, creating a smoother road for all users.

“Smoothing out these sections makes it safer and more comfortable for our residential, tourist and industrial traffic,” says Boundary-Similkameen MLA John Slater. “Not only is hot-in-place recycling an economic way to improve the ride quality, it is also much better for the environment.”

Hot-in-place recycling reuses materials, thereby reducing the quantity of fossil fuels and emissions that would have been used to extract and process new materials. This method also cuts down greenhouse gas emissions as the need to haul new materials to the work site is greatly reduced.

This $1.8M contract awarded to Green Roads Recycling Ltd., is expected to be completed by September, 2010. Single alternating traffic with a maximum delay of 15 minutes will help to minimize traffic delays.

This project is funded as a provincial-federal partnership through the SIR Expansion and the Federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
