John participated in the Opening Ceremonies of the Grand Forks Fall Fair. Minister of Agriculture Steve Thomson was also in attendance as he presented the organizers of the fair the Century Farm Award for celebrating their 100th Anniversary.

John drops the puck at the opening ceremonies of the Atom Fiesta hockey tournament in Osoyoos. The ceremony was particularly special for John as his two nephews played on the host team and his niece sang the National anthem.
